The first Rashtrakuta king Dantidurga was from Lattalur, probably the ancient name for Latur. Anecdotally, Ratnapur is also mentioned as a name for Latur.

The King Amoghavarsha of Rashtrakutas developed the Latur city, originally the native place of the Rashtrakutas. The Rashtrakutas who succeeded the Chalukyas of Badami in 753 A.D called themselves the residents of Lattalut.

Before 1948, Latur was a part of Hyderbad state under Nizam. The chief of Nizam's Razakar army Qasim Razwi was from Latur. Until 1981 Latur was a Taluqa town in Osmanabad district in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. On 16th August 1981, a separate Latur district was carved out of Osmanabad district.

PVR Movies

PVR (Priya Village Roadshow) Cinemas is one of the largest cinema chain in India. The company, which began as a joint venture agreement between Priya Exhibitors Private Limited and Village Roadshow Limited, began its commercial operations in June 1997 with the launch of PVR Anupam in Saket, India's first multiplex. By introducing the multiplex concept in India, PVR Cinemas brought in a whole new paradigm shift to the cinema viewing experience: high class seating, state-of-the-art screens and audio-visual systems.

As of 2007, PVR has a total of 101 screens in 25 multiplexes across India. PVR commands a significant presence in New Delhi and NCR with 37 screens in 13 multiplexes. PVR also has a strong presence in Lucknow, Indore, and Bangalore. It is a relative newcomer to other parts of the county, especially in Mumbai where there are many other established multiplex companies, like Adlabs Cinemas, Cinemax, FAME Cinemas, and INOX Cinemas. PVR also currently operates India's largest multiplex, PVR Bangalore, which has 11 screens.
PVR recently launched its premium brand, PVR Premiere, targeted at urban consumers in metros, with the opening of PVR Select Citywalk in Select Citywalk। The company operates two other brands, PVR Talkies, the no-frills cinemas for consumers in tier II cities and the original PVR Cinemas targeted at the urban & semi-urban consumers.

PVR Cinemas

PVR Cinemas, the largest cinema exhibitor in India, is all set to take the ticket to Hollywood. Through a joint venture with local players in the US and the UK, the multiplex chain will roll out cinema halls overseas.

However, top executives of PVR Cinemas declined to comment. With this strategic move, PVR will be the only Indian multiplex to have presence in these markets, which have a large ethnic Indian population.

According to a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers, overseas box-office revenues last year contributed almost 8 per cent to the total BO collection. This figure is expected to increase by 1 per cent this year.

PVR Cinemas, which currently operates in 13 cities via 21 properties (81 screens) is planning a major expansion spree. It plans to roll out cinema halls in 52 locations across 33 cities with 270 plus screens by the end of 2010, investing around Rs 1.5 crore per screen. The chain has digitised 14 screens and intends to digitise screens in semi-metros.

PVR has announced its foray into film production by collaborating with Aamir Khan Productions for two movies starring actor Aamir Khan. While the film first Taare Zameen Par is slated for release in December, the second film - Jane Tu Ya Jaane Na - will release in the summer of 2008. PVR plans to release four to five films by the end of FY09 and is believed to be in talks with various directors.

The company plans to strengthen its operations in the movie distribution space with big banner movies like Taare Zameen Par and has made an initial investment of Rs 80 crore for the expansion of its distribution business.

In the past, it has distributed several English movies on an all-India level and low-budget movies like Being Cyrus and Bheja Fry (not in Mumbai).

The chain has been a pioneer in adopting new technologies like internet ticket booking in 1999.

Today, the company earns close to 11 per cent annually from internet booking.

PVR is also considering providing movie tickets via SMS।
